A cyclist suffered serious injuries in a fall in Javea this morning, leaving him unable to move, while one of his companions fainted while attempting to assist him.
The incident occurred at around 10.51 am in the vicinity of the Gorgos river in Javea. According to the Alicante Provincial Firefighters Consortium, the 50-year-old man fell from his bicycle while travelling along a rural track, the Cami de Fonandons. He was left immobilised after sustaining multiple contusions, with emergency services suspecting a broken collarbone.
A fellow cyclist who went to help him collapsed after suffering a bout of fainting, exacerbated by the high temperatures affecting the Marina Alta area during morning physical activity.
Firefighters from the Javea station were immediately deployed alongside a rescue team in the Mike Victor 9 Romeo helicopter due to the difficult accessibility of the terrain. Both individuals received medical treatment at the scene, and the cyclist with multiple injuries was subsequently transferred by ambulance to Dénia Hospital.
