The University of Alicante inaugurated the Artificial Intelligence applied to healthcare management course on Tuesday at the new Interuniversity Headquarters in Torrevieja, located in the Agamed building. The training is focused on using artificial intelligence tools applied to decision making and solving problems across various levels of healthcare management.
Organised by the University of Alicante through its Torrevieja Headquarters, the course offers practical teaching with applications in hospitals, primary care centres, social healthcare resources, public administrations, and private healthcare entities.
The initiative forms part of Aula GESTAS, the permanent classroom for healthcare management and technology applied to health, created by the university following needs identified during a consultation process with Torrevieja University Hospital, Quirónsalud Torrevieja Hospital, and the local council. Professionals in nursing, psychology, social work, and other disciplines related to healthcare and social care work within the town hall.
The programme combines healthcare and technological knowledge to transfer artificial intelligence use to concrete management situations. The methodology includes personalised tutoring, work on practical cases, and content designed for direct application in different professional environments.
Teaching will be delivered by specialised university professors in computer engineering and health sciences, alongside healthcare sector professionals. This approach allows technological tools to be addressed from the perspective of those involved in planning and managing services, resources, and care processes.
The training is aimed at higher university graduates and professionals belonging to groups A1 and A2. Those who pass the course will obtain accreditation for 40 hours of university training and 4 ECTS credits.
The course will run until 19th November, from 16:00 to 20:00, through a hybrid model. Tuesday sessions will be in-person at the University of Alicante Headquarters in Torrevieja, located in the Agamed-University Headquarters building. Thursday classes will be taught online and synchronously.
Enrolment costs 150euro. Collaborating entities can propose five active professionals to take the training free of charge through corresponding fee exemptions. The pre-registration period ended on 18 October.
Academic coordination corresponds to Loreto Maciá Soler, professor of services management at the Faculty of Health Sciences at the University of Alicante; Vicente García Román, head of the preventive medicine service at Torrevieja University Hospital; and Víctor Pérez Cantó, nursing director at Vithas Hospitals and services management professor at the university.
The teaching team includes Francisco Javier Ferrández Pastor and Manuel Platero Horcajadas, computer engineers from the Higher Polytechnic School at the University of Alicante and members of the TYS research group; Melanie López Pastor, nurse in charge of teaching at Torrevieja University Hospital; and Joaquín Uris Selles, doctor and certification systems consultant at Uris Consultores.
The course represents one of the first specialisation proposals from the new Interuniversity Headquarters in Torrevieja, responding to needs raised by local professionals and institutions. Around 2,000 people work in the healthcare sector in Torrevieja between Torrevieja University Hospital, its health centres, and the private Quirónsalud Hospital. Course content links university training with the use of artificial intelligence in healthcare and public service management.
