FRUIT THIEVES FOUND IN PILAR INSPECTIONS

Police officers from the Valencia region joined forces with the local police of Pilar de la Horadada this weekend, carrying out the inspection and preventative seizure of 210 kilos of mandarins.

A number of checks were carried out in various locations around the area, including roads and farms, in order to strengthen the protection of rural properties and commercial activities.

The seizures of fruits were made after vehicles were stopped and searched at roadside checkpoints and during stop and search activities, revealing the mandarins hidden and covered in one of those vehicles.

The owner of the vehicle was unable to provide sufficient documentary evidence of ownership of the good, resulting in their seizure and they were subsequently taken to the police office on Pilar where a time limit has been imposed for providing sufficient documentation, at which time, should that not be done, the fruit is likely to be delivered to local charities due to its perishable nature.
