A 50 year old man has been arrested in San Pedro del Pinatar on charges of corruption and prostitution after being in contact with almost 500 teenagers through internet, whilst posing as a 17 year old boy, and offering sex.
According to Guardia Civil sources, FFS, a Spanish national, is charged with five instances of criminal threat, nine of the corruption of minors and four of prostitution.
The arrest, which was part of the Guardia Operation Mayo, took place at the home of the suspect, where a computer and several hard drives were seized, all containing pedophile material.
The investigation dates back to October 2013, when the Civil Guard received a complaint from a child who reported that he had been threatened by a man of about 40 years of age unless he had sex. This adult had contacted him through a popular social network whilst posing as a 17 year old.
Further enquiries showed that the suspect had created a number of different profiles on the social network site, through which he had contacted about 500 children. The Guardia were able to locate a total of eleven victims, all male and aged between 13 and 17, in the provinces of Alicante, Murcia, Malaga, Toledo, Madrid, Salamanca and Huelva.
The suspect allegedly made contact with the minors by chatting on the social network, gaining their confidence and trust over several months.
Once their confidence was won, he would then obtain sexually based photographs and videos of the children continually threatening to publish online if they did not agree to provide further images.
According to the Civil Guard, the detainee is awaiting an appearance before the Court of Instruction No. 2 in Torrevieja.
