The Partido Popular group of Orihuela, along with their affiliates from the CLR political group, have submitted a formal challenge through the courts against the Council of Elders that prevented the censure motion overthrowing the government at the start of this year.
The clerk of the courts has now issued a formal request with the municipal government forms of the Los Verdes and PSOE, with an expected initial response within 8 days, followed by a further 20 days to submit proposed actions.
The censure motion was prevented on account that two of those who had signed the move, including Pedro Mancebo, had been expelled from their political groups prior to the plenary session, and therefore were not allowed such a vote. A court recently upheld a provisional claim that this was not the case.
The courts close for the month of August and so, in a press release issued on Monday, the PP fully expects the matter to be resolved promptly, or the situation may well have to be delayed until the return of the judiciary, heading ever closer to the next municipal elections in May.
Bob Houliston, who is the chairperson of the council of elders, will be talking on Exite Radio on Tuesday morning, just after 10:00. Pedro Mancebo will also be giving more information when he talks on Exite Radio on Wednesday at the same time. Finally, we will hear from Martina Scheurer, an actual serving councillor from the Los Verdes, on Thursday.
Exite Radio is available on 93.1fm on your radio, and you can listen via the internet at www.exiteradio.com.
