An 81-year-old man has been the victim of a violent assault in Alicante after a young man brutally struck him on the head from behind to steal his bag. The octogenarian was left completely stunned as a result of the attack and suffered a five-centimetre wound that required him to be taken to Alicante General Hospital for medical attention.
The National Police have arrested a 21-year-old man as the alleged perpetrator of the assault, charging him with offences of robbery with violence and causing injury, according to an announcement yesterday, Tuesday 3rd November, by the Alicante Provincial Police Headquarters.
The incident came to light after the victim filed a report with the National Police. The elderly man told officers that he had been ambushed by an individual who dealt him a heavy blow from behind, directly to the head, leaving him dazed and unable to react to the attack.
The attacker took advantage of the octogenarian’s state to snatch the bag he was carrying and make off with his belongings.
The violence used during the robbery left the elderly man with a five-centimetre incised-contused wound to the head. Due to the injuries sustained, the man had to attend Alicante General Hospital, where he received healthcare treatment.
The assault, committed unexpectedly from behind, left the victim completely stunned, a circumstance that the attacker exploited to complete the robbery.
After receiving the report, officers from the Judicial Police Operational Group of the Alicante North District Station took charge of the investigation to try to identify the person responsible.
Investigators carried out various police enquiries and checks that enabled them to establish the identity of the alleged perpetrator.
Once the suspect was identified, officers organised a search operation to locate him. The operation concluded with the arrest of a 21-year-old man for his alleged involvement in the assault and robbery of the octogenarian.
The arrested man is facing charges for two alleged offences, one of robbery with violence and another of causing injury, for the attack suffered by the victim and the wounds inflicted on his head.
Following the completion of the relevant police proceedings, the arrested individual was placed at the disposal of the Alicante duty Court of Instruction.
