The 18 year old male killed in Benidorm´s Terra Mitica theme park has been confirmed as being a native of Iceland, who was on holiday with family members in Torrevieja.

The Icelandic Consul in Spain, Juan José Campus, said that “His brother went immediately to the scene of the fall. Sweinn even got up, but he was already dead inside.

At the time of the tragedy, he was next to one of his four younger brothers, the eldest, 20, who tried to lift him and he ran almost dying in his arms to their father and a friend. Sweinn´s mother was still in their home country at the time, with efforts being made to bring her to Spain, as well as repatriate the body once cleared by the judge.

Terra Mitica theme park have asked for assistance from the German manufacturer of the ride, as it is believed to be “impossible” for the harness to open, due to a double hydraulic electronic lock and an additional support that secures it closed under the weight of a rider.

As the investigation is ongoing, all partners involved are avoiding speculation pending the results of their findings.

Meanwhile, the 4 year old child seriously injured in the Terra Natura animal park remains in hospital in an induced coma, with a “guarded prognosis”.

This incident occurred in the Temple of Tigers area after the child fell from an ornamental wooden statue of a Hindu Goddess, of 1.5 metres in height, which apparently toppled under the weight and struck the child who had fallen from it.

A representative from the park has stressed that it is prohibited to climb on these ornamental features.
