The golfing ‘tourist’ will spend on average 3 times more than the beach tourist during their visit to Spain and all they are looking for is good weather, affordable golf, decent accommodation and night time entertainment.
Unfortunately we now have a ‘virus’ sweeping across the Costa Blanca in the form of the local police who are intent on stopping night time entertainment. The ‘Madridiots’ swoop on us in the summer with their ‘yapping’ dogs and late night rowdy family parties keeping everyone awake until the early hours BUT god forbid we should have an entertainer in a local bar with a microphone, laptop and two speakers the size of a small suitcase because they call the local police who because they are operating a work to rule to defy the politicians are all too willing to close the bars down and issue fines of up to €3000.
Most of the bars wish to operate within the rules ,which are almost non-existent and which can be interpreted differently by any policeman in a bad mood. These bars are trying to ‘eek’ out a living in the summer months to see them through the quiet winter months.
Many of my golfing clients are now openly stating that they will not return to the Costa Blanca to play golf due to this unfair entertainment restriction on their well earned golfing holiday by the police and local authorities and will go to other golfing destination like Turkey and Morocco next year.
I am not politically motivated and not too strong on mathematics but here is a calculation which is easy to follow and understand:
No Music = No Clients = No Bars = No Taxes = No need for policeman
This ‘idiotic’ approach to music and entertainment will not only stop at closed bars but will impact all areas of tourism when the Spanish economy is still on it’s’ knees and with 25% unemployment.
