Having registered 33,219 new car sales between January and July of this year, the province of Alicante has sold more than neighbouring Valencia and Castellón combined.
However, given the touristic interest in the Costa Blanca area in particular, it may come as no surprise to learn that nearly two thirds of the 33,219 sales in Alicante are to car rental companies, with a total of 19,062 units acquired.
The government funded PIVE scheme is also thought to have had a positive impact on sales, whereas a discount can be applied by trading in an older vehicle. The number of cars sold has also increased as a result, with 11,389 units sold across Alicante since the beginning of 2013, compared to 9,360 in the same period of last year, an increase of 22%. Valencia saw 19,939 units sold in the first seven months, and the figure in Castellón was 9,084.
The Director of Communications for the association of car manufacturers, Anfac, said that “private consumption in Spain is recovering” and there is a growing increase in consumer confidence”.
