The Izquierda Unida group of Torrevieja believes that the only way modern politicians can distance themselves from corruption, is by taking a stand and moving away from the corrupt history that has marred the city in recent years.
Local spokesperson for the group, Víctor Ferrández, believes that the current PP government have made “fools of themselves” by “shamelessly” asking for the former mayor of the city, Pedro Hernández Mateo, to remain free from prison, despite being found guilty of corruption.
Now, Ferrández believes that the only way of rescuing the situation is for the current mayor, Eduardo Dolón, to publicly apologise for supporting his predecessors bid for freedom. In addition, Ferrández has called for the immediate withdrawal of all commemorative plaques across the city which bear the name of the corrupt politician to be removed, thus banishing his criminal activities to history, allowing the city to move into a cleaner future.
