Work is now underway on a new skate park being built adjacent to the Pabellón Els Xiprerets in Santa Pola. The total budget for the project is 509,575 euros, with a lead time of 19 weeks.
Lola Gadea, the councilor responsible for planning said that only a third of the amount is being paid by the City Council. The rest will be provided by regional and national authorities.
The project, which falls within the Tourism Competitiveness Plan for Sport, will cover an area of 4.936,91 square meters on a much larger 16,000 square meter plot which if fully owned by the municipality. This means that there will be extra space for additional projects should anything suitable be considered in the future.
As an add on to the park three rooms will be constructed, all completely soundproofed, which will be managed by the Racó Jove and used as rehearsal rooms by a number of different town bands. There will also be an area for anyone who might want to practice break-dancing.
The skate park itself will have an area aimed at beginners and youngsters. There will also be a technical area with ramps and an intermediate circuit with obstacles at different heights, ramps, stairs, curbs and railings all erected at different heights.
The company managing the project,Tecopsa, are specialists in this type of public works. The designer and the construction manager were responsible for the construction of many similar facilities in places like San Pedro del Pinatar, so their experience is well established.
The second part of the project will include the creation of a café as well at the soundproofed rehearsal rooms.
Gadea says that this type of sports facility will prove to be a great boost for tourism, "and that many skaters of all ages will come to the venue to practice the sport, from both within and outside the province.
