Three hospitals in the province of Alicante have received the prestigious recognition of being recognised as the “Best in Class” within the National Health Service.
The General de Alicante has been recognised as the best service in the field of dermatology. Alicante´s Hospital de Sant Joan won two awards, the Best Service in Pneumology and another for the oncology department. Elche´s Vinalopó hospital has been honoured for service in the field of both Allergology and Clinical Immunology.
It is the ninth time that the awards have been presented to the medical institutions of the area, with more than 630 health and service departments across the country fighting for a total of 41 prizes, including two special awards.
Three Alicante health centres were also awarded for their excellence. The Rheumatoid Arthritis unit of La Fe was recognised for its work in the area of clinical nutrition, rheumatology, infectious and urological disease. The Nephrology unit at La Ribera was awarded for their service contribution, as was the major pain unit at the Clínico de Valencia. In total, the region has received eleven awards from 39 categories, which places the area at the head of the country in the number of awards for quality patient care.
The Minister of Health, Manuel Llombart, spoke of the “quality of hospital services in the Region” of Valencia, and recalled how these awards are “important” in recognising the index value of quality of care to patients, and the “important role of health professionals”.
The General de Elche hospital came third place in the final for its work in transplants and Schizophrenia. The Vinalopó hospital was also in third place in its final class for Dermatology, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Intensive Care, Retina and Vitreous treatments and fourth place of their emergency department. Torrevieja came fourth in Dermatology, Obstetrics and Gynaecology and Patient Care.
