TWO POINTS LOST IN TORRY DRAW

CD Torrevieja 1 SC Requena 1

Four consecutive victories have not only lifted CD Torrevieja into joint 2nd position in the Tercera Division but they have earned the club a new found respect, as well as sending out a message that, under new manager Galiana, the time is right for this sleeping giant of a club to move on to the next level in its footballing development.

However there would be no complacency ahead of the visit of SC Requena, who, despite their precarious position in the league, have achieved 11 pts, 3 wins and 2 draws, from their last 15. Just 4 weeks ago, with only 2pts from their opening 6 fixtures, they were firmly rooted to the bottom of the table with, seemingly, no likelihood of escape. How the fortunes of both clubs have changed.

So CD Torrevieja knew that there would be no prospect for them to relax otherwise a defeat would be costly and quickly overturn the progress they have worked so hard to achieve.

Unfortunately Requena, playing their 450th Tercera game, had other ideas as they pressed Torrevieja from the very start and on just their 2nd attack, in a crowded Torry area, the youngster Pablo was first with an outstretched foot to a loose ball to put his side into an early lead.

But such is the determination of the home side that they immediately threw everything they had at the visitors who, for the remainder of the half, were limited to occasional breaks. The striker who was creating the chances was Steve and he went close with dangerous headers in the 10th and 12th minutes.

Further opportunities were squandered by the Cameroon striker before he eventually leveled the scoreline at 1-1 in the 31st minute, when he stroked the ball home following good build up play, which saw him create space in the box.

Torry continued to dominate throughout the 2nd period but were unable to add to their score, and again it was Steve who was guilty of ‘firing most of the blanks.’ Indeed he probably should have had a hat trick but further misses in the 52nd and 62nd minutes added to the strikers frustrating evening.

Oscar was called into action in the 74th minute when he made an important save which could have seen Torry go behind in a game that they really should have won in a canter. Final score CD Torrevieja 1-1 SC Requena

Next weekend Tory travel to CF Cullera. Check the club website for details.
