TEMPORARY CONTRACT BUDGET DOUBLED FOR YOUNG PEOPLE

The regional government has announced that it is to double the funding for aid allocated to create jobs for young people, in order to try to combat unemployment in the worst affected sector of the population.

Similar to work conducted in Orihuela recently, the plan provides for a temporary contract of six months to the long term unemployed, whereas they can not only earn the minimum gross salary of 11,000 euro, they also train in key skills to enable them to find long term employment once the scheme is over, assuming that there are jobs available at that time.

The first batch of aid was spread across 66 municipalities, which has now been extended to 72 across Valencia. The original budget for the plan was set at 3.5 million euro, but in view of the apparent success, this has now increased to 7.9 million, all destined for those under 30 years of age.

Schemes like the one which saw the improvement of park land in Orihuela, and will shortly see a new batch of workers create a network of cycle paths are not the only way into the scheme, qualifying companies can also apply for a grant from the ministry of employment in order to give young people work through the employment agency SERVEF.

A total of 721 young people are now set to be recruited into the scheme across Valencia, 173 of whom are across the 72 municipalities of Alicante, where a budget share of 1,888,945 euro has been allocated.
