SPAIN SECURITY INCREASED

Jorge Fernández Díaz

The Interior Minister, Jorge Fernández Díaz, has announced that the government of Spain has raised the security alert level to level 3, following the attack in France, although there is no specific threat made against Spain.

The country had been on level 2 with high intensity since September, which meant heightened security at infrastructure sites such as airports, train stations and power plants. The level now established is level 3 with low intensity.

Raising the alert to level 3 out of 5 means an increase in security at key locations, as well as restricting access to sensitive sites, and may involve the use of troops to support the domestic security services.
