Valencia 22/3/2015 – The third and final round of the National Tenpin Bowling League 2014-2015 was bowled in Paterna (men’s Premier Division) and Valencia (ladies’ Premier Division).
Out of their seven matches, Euro Bowling Torrevieja’s men won four, drew two and lost one match to clinch the silver medals – no mean feat in their first year in the national top division. The EBT ladies finished in sixth place.
Barcelona’s Diagonal were proclaimed champions by a clear margin, but the fight for the silver medals was tremendous, as up to five teams had a realistic chance to grab them. After Saturday’s four matches, EBT had built up an 11-point lead over Celta which they lost in Sunday morning’s first match against Levante 1 – 9.
Another Catalan team, Comarcal, were now just three points behind EBT. Shaken but not stirred, the Torry men produced their best game, beating Diagonal 7 – 3 and the bottom team Joventut 8 – 2. Despite bowling well and winning 60% of the points in play, Levante’s men saw themselves bitterly relegated to First Division by only one point.
In the individual table, Torrevieja’s international star Tore Torgersen – a three-time world champion from Norway – dominated the scene and posted an average well above the rest, 230.29.
Other Torry bowlers who made the top ten were Patrick Gimmestad (209.93) and Mika Määttä (208.86). During the season, EBT’s teams, captained by Kjell “The Viking” Monsen, were composed by six Finns, three Spaniards, three Norwegians, and one Belgian.
