VEGA BAJA PREMIER GOLF LEAGUE – PREMIER DIVISION – 3rd APRIL 2015 at El Plantio Golf Resort

The Vega Baja Premier Golf League final fixture of the season was at El Plantio Golf Resort in Alicante and on Good Friday, so how good was it going to be?

All eyes were really on two teams La Manga North and Las Ramblas Golf Society, as the results of their respective matches would determine the 2015 Champions.

La Manga North were playing their local rivals La Manga Residents Association and a lot was going to depend on the result of this match as La Manga North held a four point advantage over second place Las Ramblas G.S.

Las Ramblas who are the holders of the Kameeleon Premier Trophy and were determined to go out and win handsomely enough to retain the trophy.

The other results although important for the individual Golf Societies, the main ones were for the title and second place, it was non-playing Captain of La Manga North who was running around in a buggy chivvying up his team, but the team also from La Manga RGA denied Robin and his team by holding them to a draw and taking the three bonus points with a better total points.

Mick Brentnall Las Ramblas G.S. Captain took no hostages and his team made sure that the four point deficit would not be the deterrent in retaining the trophy by amassing the days highest point total of the day and with it the bonus points. Paddy’s Point was not going to make it easy, but in this mood Las Ramblas were not going to be beaten.

EuroToffs although at the bottom of the table they wanted to finish the season in a flourish and this is what they did by beating a normally strong La Serena team although it was enough to lift them off the bottom.

Rockets who know what its like to be at the base of the table finished the season in a very creditable third place by drawing with journey men Don Cayo G.S. but missed out on the bonus points but kept the third spot by one point.

La Manga North could only muster 6 league points from the match but with Las Ramblas earning 12 meant they overcame the four point difference and took the trophy by 2 points.

What a cracking finale.

The highest pairing scores came in the Las Ramblas vs. Paddy’s Point match and were:

Myra Coull/Elsie Cowie 44 points & Kevin Fitzpatrick/Steve Higgins 39 points (Paddy’s Point G S) Barbara Hitchings/Mick Brentnall 40 points, Geoff Biggerstaff/Tom Hardie 39 points, Benedicte Kruse/Bryan Neal 39 points (Las Ramblas G S)

A true team effort that brought the season to a close.

Congratulations to the Las Ramblas team and to La Manga North for making it such an exceiting season, thanks also to all the teams and players for their contribution in making the Vega Baja Premier Golf League such an competitive and exciting league now in its 15th year.
