According to data released last week, Low Cost airlines carried 1.2 million passengers through Alicante Airport in the first four months of the year, representing an increase of 7.5% over the same period last year, and also representing 14.3% of the National total,
In all they transported 8.6 million passengers, up 11.7% on the year. In contrast, traditional companies moved 9.5 million travelers to April, showing an increase of 1.1% over the same period of 2014.
In April alone the airlines increased their passengers by 6.4% to over three million, 52.5% of the total air traffic for that month, which had itself risen by 2.7% to 5.8 million passengers.
By markets, in April, the UK and Italy led the way accounting for 33.2% and 12.9% respectively of all passengers who chose to travel by air achieving growth of 6.9% for the British market (2.8 million passengers), and 20.2% for the Italian market (1.1 million passengers).
Germany, the third largest traveller, increased their portion by 13.6% to 993 185, equivalent to 11.5% of the total number. They were followed by France, with 8.9% of the total achieving 764 537 passengers, 19.9% more than a year ago.
Of the airlines themselves, Ryanair, E asyJet and Vueling, achieved 71% of the passenger volume generated in the low cost segment and 37% of the total in international air travel who arrived in Spain.
