A yellow weather warning has been issued for the southern Costa Blanca, including Torrevieja, from 12:00 to 20:00 on Saturday. Temperatures are forecast to climb to around 36 °C, with uncomfortable overnight lows and high humidity likely to persist into the evening. Authorities have advised residents and tourists alike to take appropriate precautions as the heat may pose a risk to health, particularly for vulnerable individuals.
Local health services have released the following guidance:
- Stay well hydrated, drinking water regularly even if you don’t feel thirsty. Alcohol and caffeinated drinks should be avoided.
- Remain indoors or in shaded areas during the hottest part of the day (12:00–17:00), and postpone any strenuous activity until temperatures ease.
- Keep a close eye on elderly neighbours, young children, and people with chronic health conditions. Pets should also be given shade and fresh water, and never left in parked vehicles.
- Be alert to signs of heat-related illness such as headaches, dizziness, muscle cramps or fainting. Anyone experiencing these symptoms should be moved to a cooler place, offered water, and monitored. In serious cases, emergency services should be contacted by dialling 112.
Other helpful tips include keeping blinds closed during the day to block out direct sunlight, using fans or taking cool showers, and ventilating rooms during the cooler hours of the evening or early morning. Residents without air conditioning are encouraged to use shaded public spaces or shopping centres to cool down.
Motorists are urged to avoid travel during peak heat hours, ensure their vehicles are well maintained, and take regular breaks on long journeys. Extra care is advised for anyone travelling with children, older adults, or pets.
