Nine people have been injured following a multi-vehicle pile-up on the AP-7 motorway in Villajoyosa yesterday, Monday 18th May. The incident, which involved four cars, resulted in one vehicle catching fire and caused significant traffic delays.
The emergency services were alerted to the collision at approximately 7.22 am at kilometre 663 of the AP-7. Firefighters from the San Vicente park, including a command unit and a heavy urban pump, were deployed to the scene to extinguish the blaze that had broken out in one of the vehicles involved.
The Information and Coordination Centre for Urgencies (CICU) dispatched a SAMU unit, two Basic Life Support units, and a conventional ambulance to provide medical assistance. Health professionals treated seven men, aged between 23 and 60, and two women, aged 49 and 61. Most of the casualties sustained bruises and whiplash.
Seven of the injured individuals were transferred to the Marina Baixa Hospital in Villajoyosa and the IMED Clinic in Benidorm for further treatment. The remaining two casualties were able to travel to a health centre independently. The Guardia Civil and local authorities assisted at the scene while the fire was extinguished and the road was cleared, with the intervention concluding at 9.42 am.
