The Mayor of Orihuela, Pepe Vegara, and the Councillor for the Coast, Manuel Mestre, attended the official Blue Flag award ceremony for the Valencian Community this Monday. The event, held in Chilches, Castellón, was organised by the Association for Environmental and Consumer Education (ADEAC) and presided over by Vicente Martínez Mus, the Regional Minister for the Environment, Infrastructure, and Territory.
Orihuela has once again secured its position as one of the municipalities with the highest number of Blue Flags in the entire Valencian Community. The town successfully renewed the ten distinctions it received last year, which recognise the excellent condition of its beaches, water quality, provided services, and the local commitment to environmental standards.
The Orihuela beaches awarded the Blue Flag for 2026 are Calas de Aguamarina, Barranco Rubio, Cabo Roig-La Caleta, Cala Capitán, Cala Cerrada, Cala Estaca, Campoamor-La Glea, La Zenia-Cala Bosque, Mil Palmeras, and Punta Prima. Additionally, the Dehesa de Campoamor Marina has retained its distinction in the yacht club category.
During the ceremony, the Mayor and the Councillor for the Coast collected the awards alongside Sabina Goreti Galindo, the Regional Secretary for the Environment and an Orihuela native. They also took the opportunity to personally thank Minister Martínez Mus for the recognition.
Speaking at the event, the Mayor of Orihuela stated that this achievement confirms the town’s status as a leading destination on the Spanish coast. He noted that this success is the result of constant work carried out throughout the year to maintain high quality standards. Vegara emphasised that these awards are not a one-off occurrence but the consequence of a continuous strategy focused on water quality, services, and coastal maintenance. He also highlighted the return of the Blue Flag for the marina as a significant achievement.
