The Bigsound Festival, held in Valencia, is currently facing significant criticism from ticket holders after organisers refused to issue refunds despite substantial changes to the advertised line-up. A number of fans who purchased tickets specifically to see headline acts that have since withdrawn from the event expressed their frustration, claiming that the festival is failing to honour consumer rights.
Under Spanish law, a significant modification to the conditions of a contract, such as the cancellation of main performers at a music festival, usually entitles the consumer to a refund. However, the organisers of the Valencia event have maintained that the general terms and conditions accepted at the time of purchase allow for line-up changes without the obligation to return the ticket price.
The controversy has sparked a wave of complaints to consumer protection agencies. Affected individuals argue that the absence of the “star” artists fundamentally alters the service they paid for. While the festival continues to promote its remaining schedule, the refusal to reimburse those no longer wishing to attend has overshadowed the preparations for the upcoming dates in the city.
Bigsound already pulled out of Torrevieja earlier this month, citing poor ticket sales.
