Officers from the Guardia Civil have freed two women who were victims of sexual exploitation in Callosa de Segura, leading to the arrest of a married couple aged 59 and 66 on charges of human trafficking and unlawful detention.
The operation began after one of the victims managed to send an emergency alert to 112, reporting that she was being forced into prostitution. A local patrol quickly attended the scene and spoke with the woman, who confirmed she was being held against her will without documentation or money. She was immediately transferred to a specialised centre for support while Judicial Police investigators launched an inquiry.

The investigation was handed over to the Women and Minors Team (EMUME) of the Alicante Command. The victim explained that she had been lured from her country with a fake job offer as a waitress, which promised a salary and accommodation. Upon arrival, however, she was told she would have to engage in prostitution. Deprived of her documents and lacking financial resources to leave, she was subjected to continuous control and constant surveillance.
Officers later searched the property where the operation was conducted. The isolated building, situated alongside a road, featured a bar on the ground floor and the location used for sexual exploitation on the upper level. During the search, officers arrested the husband and wife and located a second woman being sexually exploited, who corroborated the first victim’s statements. Both women have since received protected status and support from specialised victim organisations.
Investigators seized a large quantity of documentation, records detailing rates, 30,000 euro in cash, six mobile phones, and a laptop. Initial analysis of the material led to the identification of a third victim who is also receiving assistance. Records found on site contain details of up to 50 potential victims.
The two suspects were placed before the Section for Violence Against Women at the Court of First Instance in Orihuela, which ordered their provisional imprisonment.
