National Police officers have arrested a 59-year-old man in Alcoy for his alleged involvement in document fraud and offences against the rights of foreign citizens. The suspect had reportedly registered foreign nationals at the address he was renting so they could complete documentation procedures in exchange for a sum of money.
The events came to light when a man visited police station premises to ask about the procedures required to issue an invitation letter for a foreign national, according to a statement from the National Police.
When officers analysed the paperwork he was carrying, they noticed that the municipal registration certificate issued in his name listed various foreign nationals registered on different dates.
To verify whether these foreign nationals actually lived at the address, officers carried out a series of checks. These confirmed that none of the individuals listed on the municipal register were residing at the property.
During the course of the investigation, officers also confirmed that some of the individuals registered at the address had paid 250 euro to register there so they could proceed with their documentation applications.
Based on all the evidence gathered during the enquiry, officers established that the suspect had collaborated, for financial gain, in the irregular stay of foreign nationals by providing fictitious registrations with the necessary paperwork to bypass current immigration legislation.
Consequently, he was arrested as the alleged perpetrator of document fraud and an offence against the rights of foreign citizens. Following the completion of police proceedings, the case details were forwarded to the Duty Magistrate’s Court in Alcoy.
