The Local Government Board of Elche has approved the start of the licensing process for the contract of the ‘Menjar a Casa’ (Food at Home) service. Aimed at the nutrition of elderly people, the contract has a maximum annual base bidding budget of 204,329 euro. This move highlights the understanding that proper nutrition contributes decisively to the health, well-being and quality of life of everyone, and particularly the elderly.
Spokesperson Inma Mora pointed out that the goal of this programme is to offer a healthy diet in the individual’s own home, adapted to their specific needs. It is targeted at people over the age of 65, individuals aged 60 who are in a situation of dependency, and disabled people over 18 in a situation of dependency who live with an elderly beneficiary over 65.
Subsidies
During yesterday meeting, Thursday 28th May, approval was also given to request a subsidy from the Regional Ministry of Universal Health and Public Health. This falls within the framework of aid for projects deploying the Health Plan, and will be allocated to the project “Elche Cardioprotected and Cardiosaludable City: Learn to Help until Help Arrives”.
This project involves holding eight CPR and first aid workshops on public streets, next to solar defibrillators installed in public spaces and near educational centres. The aim is for the highest number of families to attend, placing them at the heart of learning, whilst raising awareness about the importance of training in CPR techniques, consolidating knowledge in the field, and sparking public interest so that people lose their fear of picking up a defibrillator.
Additionally, a subsidy has been requested to develop the community prevention programme for addictive behaviours, titled “Desafía-T: Jóvenes Invencibles III” (Challenge Yourself: Invincible Youth III), under the aid framework of the State Secretariat for Health, amounting to 345,000 euro. The objective is to promote local drug use prevention programmes and associated criminal activities, as well as the prevention of other addictions.
In this regard, Mora noted that through the Department of Youth and the Community Prevention Unit for Addictive Behaviours (UPCCA), actions and prevention programmes concerning addictive substance consumption and other related pathologies are developed every year within healthy youth leisure frameworks, creating the need to apply for this new funding. The total cost of the programme is 493,000 euro, meaning the Elche City Council would cover 30%.
Agreements
Furthermore, various collaboration agreements have been approved. These include 24,000 euro for the Sociedad Venida de la Virgen, alongside the transfer of a property to serve as its administrative and social headquarters. An agreement of 20,000 euro was approved with the Association of Deaf People of Baix Vinalopó and Elche (APESOELX) and the Deaf People’s Foundation of the Valencian Community (FESORD CV), whilst 21,000 euro was allocated to the Valencian Association of Footwear Entrepreneurs (AVECAL).
At the same time, an agreement worth 120,000 euro was approved with the Fundació de l’Esport Il·licità of the Valencian Community to foster and promote sports in Elche through organising healthy sporting activities, competitions and programmes for adults, alongside campaigns to promote sport among school-age children.
