An 81-year-old resident of a local geriatric centre who suffers from Alzheimer’s and other ailments has been found safe after a major search operation in Pilar de la Horadada.
The emergency began last Saturday, 6th June, at 3:15 p.m. when the Local Police of Pilar de la Horadada received a report from the Guardia Civil of Torre de la Horadada regarding the man’s disappearance. An immediate and coordinated search operation was activated, involving the Guardia Civil, Local Police and Civil Protection of Pilar de la Horadada, with additional monitoring collaboration from the Local Police forces of neighbouring municipalities.
The search continued throughout Saturday and was reinforced on Sunday with aerial resources. This included the selfless collaboration of the company “Abejorros Horadada”, which deployed a drone to search several areas of the municipality of Pilar de la Horadada to locate the elderly man.
Finally, on the night of Sunday, 7th June, the missing man was located conscious after a member of the public alerted authorities to a person who had fallen down an embankment next to the N-332 highway. With the joint collaboration of the Guardia Civil, Civil Protection and emergency medical services, the elderly man was rescued and taken by ambulance to a hospital for treatment.
The Councillor for Citizen Security, Marina Sáez, expressed her gratitude to the population for getting involved in the search for their neighbour, noting that the collaboration of the residents was decisive in the outcome. She also highlighted the vital actions of the Local Police, Guardia Civil, Civil Protection, health services, the Local Police forces of neighbouring municipalities and the company Abejorros Horadada.
