The local council of Los Montesinos has successfully persuaded the Generalitat to bring forward the first daily service of the L639 intercity bus line by three hours. The line, which connects San Miguel de Salinas and Alicante, will see this improvement after the regional transport department accepted a formal complaint submitted by the municipal authority to enhance mobility options for local residents.
The timetable modification will come into effect on 11th June, allowing the first bus to depart at 07:10 instead of the current time of 10:00, running from Monday to Saturday on working days. The local council highlighted that this change will significantly ease daily travel to Alicante, the University of Alicante, and other municipalities in the region for students, workers, and individuals needing access to healthcare or administrative services.

The Mayor of Los Montesinos, José Manuel Butrón, welcomed the decision from the regional administration, describing it as a response to a logical and necessary demand made by numerous public transport users. He noted that the measure proves improvements can be achieved when regional bodies listen to the specific needs put forward by local councils.
However, municipal authorities emphasized that this is not the only demand they have submitted to the Generalitat regarding intercity transport. The local council has lodged several objections to the final blueprint of the new service, demanding an increase in frequencies on the L-6 route between San Miguel de Salinas and Alicante, as well as the 11.B route connecting Orihuela, Torrevieja, and the Hospital de Torrevieja. The municipal proposal calls for a minimum of four daily outward and return journeys on both corridors.
Furthermore, the local government team expressed concern over the reduction of journeys compared to the previous CV-215 scheme, which had proposed a higher number of daily services. In light of this, Butrón demanded a public assessment of the provisional services currently operating before any permanent cuts to transport availability are locked in.
The local council is also continuing its campaign for upgrades to public transport infrastructure, particularly regarding bus shelters and stops, which fall under the responsibility of the Generalitat Valenciana. The local authority stated it will keep demanding investment to ensure facilities are accessible, safe, and tailored to the needs of passengers.
