Torrevieja City Council announced on Monday, 8th June, a further reinforcement of the Local Police’s equipment through the acquisition of eight new police vehicles. The move, secured via a leasing agreement, represents a total investment of 325,770 euro over the next four years. The contract includes the addition of three new SUV patrol cars, a nine-seater police van and four motorcycles, all equipped with state-of-the-art specialised police equipment.
According to a press release from the governing team, the fleet renewal responds to the need to improve the operational capacity of the police force in light of the increased number of officers and the city’s constant growth. This ensures that officers have modern, efficient vehicles adapted to the current demands of police service. The presentation of these new vehicles, displayed in front of the main Town Hall building in Plaza de la Constitución, was led by the Mayor of Torrevieja, Eduardo Dolón; the Councillor for Security and Emergencies, Federico Alarcón; the Director General of the Local Police, Alejandro Morer; and the Chief Superintendent of Police, Óscar Cartón.
The contract is divided into two separate lots. The first includes three non-plug-in hybrid SUV patrol vehicles and a nine-seater police van for transporting police personnel. The second lot includes four police motorcycles equipped for surveillance, traffic control and community policing.
The three new patrol vehicles are non-plug-in hybrid petrol SUVs with automatic transmission, five doors, five seats, low emissions and reduced fuel consumption. They also incorporate advanced safety and driver assistance systems. Meanwhile, the new police van has nine seats, a diesel engine, automatic transmission and extensive equipment designed for the safe and comfortable transport of police officers during special operations, large events and extraordinary deployments.
All vehicles incorporate the official corporate image of the Torrevieja Local Police and are equipped with specific police equipment, including LED emergency lighting systems, electronic sirens, TETRA radios, public address systems, operational lighting spotlights, parking assistance cameras, a second auxiliary battery and approved lettering.
In addition, they have intervention and safety equipment such as fire extinguishers, complete first aid kits, fire blankets, road signage, professional flashlights, barrier tapes and other accessories intended to improve the response capacity of the agents in any type of incident.
The investment amounts to 325,770 euro, including VAT, for the 48-month contract period. Of this amount, 243,064 euro corresponds to the three patrol cars and the police van, while 82,705.92 euro is allocated to the four motorcycles. The press release fails to mention which companies have won the public tenders, which are Transtel for the lot of vehicles and Cooltra Motors for the motorcycles.
The contract includes all expenses associated with the use of the vehicles, such as comprehensive maintenance, mechanical repairs, tyre replacement, technical inspections, fully comprehensive insurance with no excess, 24-hour roadside assistance, taxes, registration and homologation. Furthermore, in the event of prolonged breakdowns or accidents, the winning bidder must provide replacement vehicles to ensure that police service is not disrupted.
The decision to lease vehicles allows the City Council to have a permanently updated fleet, avoiding future costs of acquiring and maintaining ageing vehicles, as well as ensuring that the Local Police have modern, safe and technologically advanced means to carry out their daily work.
