The Salvamar Leo rescue vessel from Maritime Rescue has successfully towed a 23-metre yacht to safety after it was left adrift without engine power. Two crew members were on board the vessel when the breakdown occurred, but both fortunately escaped without injury.
The emergency alert was received by the Rescue Coordination Centre in Valencia, which quickly mobilised the Alicante-based Salvamar Leo to assist.
Stranded near the rocks
The yacht suffered the mechanical failure near San Gabriel, right at the mouth of the Alicante port. After losing all propulsion, the vessel began drifting dangerously close to the rocks. To prevent a collision, the crew members dropped anchor to steady the ship while they awaited emergency assistance.
The Salvamar Leo arrived on the scene and safely towed the yacht back into the port of Alicante, where it is now securely moored in the Marina Deportiva.
