A fire broke out on Wednesday afternoon, 24th June, in a garage located on Avenida del Mar in the Punta Prima residential area of Orihuela Costa. This major thoroughfare in the coastal town, which borders the municipality of Torrevieja, required the attendance of local emergency services to manage the incident.
Firefighters from the Torrevieja station were dispatched to the scene after receiving an alert at 3:11 p.m. Crews spent two hours tackling the blaze before the intervention was officially concluded at 5:11 p.m., according to reports from the Provincial Fire Consortium.
Investigations into the cause of the fire indicate that it originated in the electric battery used to power the garage door mechanism. While the incident resulted in a significant volume of smoke, no injuries were reported, and damage was restricted to property.
Punta Prima is well-known for its family-friendly atmosphere and its close proximity to the beach. The area is largely defined by villa-style construction, though there are several larger buildings situated along Avenida del Mar, which is also home to a children’s park, a small church, and a popular restaurant.
