The National Police are investigating the death of a 43-year-old man in Denia following a fierce argument with a neighbour, who has been arrested on suspicion of homicide. The victim is of Spanish nationality, whilst the detained man is a 58-year-old Belgian national. Sources point to the existence of previous bad blood between the two, as they had been involved in disputes before.
The incident occurred this Wednesday, 24th June, at around six o’clock in the evening at the Paloví urbanisation, a residential complex located at the northernmost end of the Denia coast, in the Les Deveses section.
Although enquiries are ongoing, investigators are working with the hypothesis that, during the argument, the neighbours began exchanging punches. At that moment, the deceased fell into the interior of a car, struck an element of the vehicle, and suffered severe head trauma which proved fatal. Other witness accounts suggest the victim fell to the ground next to the vehicle with the same fatal outcome. It is confirmed that the fight took place in the car park of the housing development.
A female neighbour alerted the 112 emergency services to what was happening. The Urgency Information and Coordination Centre (CICU) dispatched a SAMU ambulance unit, but paramedics could only certify the man’s death. The alleged aggressor has been detained for an offence of manslaughter through negligence.
The judicial authority has authorised the removal of the body, and an autopsy will be performed to clarify the exact circumstances of the death.
