Registration has officially opened for the 54th Elche Half Marathon, which is the oldest event of its kind in the world. The historic race is scheduled to take place on 11th April 2027.
Organisers from Elche City Council and the Elche Decatlón Athletics Club confirmed that the upcoming event will once again offer two distances approved by the Royal Spanish Athletics Federation: a 21K half marathon and a 10K race. Both distances will feature a unified start time at 09:00 from Avenida del Alcalde Vicente Quiles, located next to the Elche-Parque railway station.
The Councillor for Sports, José Antonio Román, highlighted that the Elche Half Marathon is the most significant event on the local sporting calendar and represents a vital part of the city’s heritage due to its world-record longevity. He encouraged runners to sign up as early as Tuesday to secure their place.
The General Director of the race, Carlos Martínez, expressed immense enthusiasm for the 54th edition, emphasising a continued commitment to developing an event so deeply rooted in the sporting history of Elche.
Organisers also revealed that the official race shirts for this edition will feature shades of blue, continuing a specific colour-themed tradition from previous years. Martínez explained that the blue palette symbolises water and air, connecting the race to Elche and its coastline while promoting the environmental quality of the municipality.
Initial registration fees have been set at 25 euro for the half marathon and 18 euro for the 10K race. Runners who took part in the 2026 event will receive a 2 euro discount if they register during the first two weeks.
