A 28-year-old man has died this afternoon after being hit by a vehicle following a traffic accident on the A-70 Alicante ring road. The young man got out of the vehicle he was travelling in and was fatally struck, according to sources from the Guardia Civil Traffic Unit.
The fatal accident occurred at about seven o’clock in the evening yesterday, Friday 3rd July, at kilometre 13 of the A-70 highway towards Valencia, near Villafranqueza in Alicante.
Initially, two vehicles were involved in a rear-end collision that resulted in no injuries, causing only material damage. However, the 28-year-old man then got out of his car and was fatally struck by another vehicle travelling in the direction of Valencia.
Several traffic patrols from the Guardia Civil and ambulances were quickly dispatched to the scene, but unfortunately, the health services were unable to do anything to save the life of the young man.
The Guardia Civil Traffic Unit has requested the presence of funeral services to transfer the body to the Institute of Legal Medicine in Alicante, where an autopsy will be performed today, Saturday.
The individual suspected of causing the fatal collision tested positive for alcohol and drugs. The Accident Investigation Team in Alicante is currently investigating the incident for suspected offences of homicide through gross negligence and offences against road safety.
The accident caused traffic jams in the direction of Valencia, as the vehicles involved had not yet been removed from the scene until shortly before eight o’clock.
