A Ryanair flight travelling from Marseille to Nador was forced to make an emergency diversion to Alicante-Elche Airport following a medical emergency on board. According to Spanish air traffic controllers, a passenger on the Boeing 737-8AS aircraft operated by Malta Air suffered a serious medical problem while the plane was flying over Valencia. This situation prompted the urgent diversion to the Alicante airport.
Air traffic controllers explained that they facilitated a continued descent and positioned the aircraft for a direct approach to runway 10 with priority. They also coordinated with the airport to ensure medical assistance was ready on the ground. Air traffic controllers are responsible for managing aircraft traffic to ensure flight safety, ordering manoeuvres in the airspace, and coordinating priority actions when an emergency situation occurs.
