The State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) has activated a yellow weather warning for today, Tuesday 21st July, across parts of the Valencian Community due to the imminent risk of storms and heavy rain. The alert, which comes amid an intense heatwave, warns of sudden weather changes that could bring hail and very strong gusts of wind to the region.
Weather tracking alerts focus heavily on the southern interior of Valencia, where storms are expected to develop during the afternoon. The threat follows a series of intense storms that recently brought hail to the Ribera area and strong winds to the Cofrentes-Ayora Valley. Emergency services have urged residents to exercise extreme caution as the high-temperature conditions combined with the storms increase the risk of dry lightning, posing a serious threat of wildfires.
Simultaneously, the region remains under an orange alert for high temperatures, with thermometers expected to reach up to 39 degrees in the northern interior of Valencia, including municipalities like Requena and Onteniente. Similar scorching conditions are forecast further south in the Alicante province, where the city of Alcoy is expected to hit 39 degrees and Orihuela will see highs of 38 degrees. Authorities advise the public to limit sun exposure during peak hours, remain hydrated, and keep a close eye on vulnerable individuals.
