A 76-year-old Ukrainian man swimmer has tragically passed away after drowning at Los Náufragos beach in the municipality of Torrevieja, Alicante. The incident occurred yesterday morning, Monday 20th July, with emergency services receiving an alert at 7:43 am regarding a man who was found in cardiorespiratory arrest.
Following the emergency call, the Health Emergency Coordination and Information Centre (CICU) mobilised a Basic Life Support (SVB) unit alongside a Medical Urgent Help Service (SAMU) team to the scene. The medical crew from the SAMU unit performed advanced cardiopulmonary resuscitation techniques on the man, but there was unfortunately no response, and his death was subsequently confirmed at the scene. Meanwhile, his wife was treated for an anxiety attack, according to the Guardia Civil.
An upcoming autopsy will determine the exact causes of the drowning, according to sources from the CICU. The Health Emergency Services have also reminded the public that advice on how to prevent similar drowning incidents can be reviewed on the official website of the Ministry of Health.
