Officers from the Guardia Civil in Callosa de Segura and Almoradí have dismantled a criminal gang involved in a series of gambling arcade robberies across the Vega Baja region, recovering details of a scheme that netted over 33,000 euro.
The joint investigation, conducted under operations Randoma and Jackpot-26, began following a break-in at a gaming venue in Callosa de Segura. Investigators discovered that the group used a calculated method to maximise their stolen loot before physically breaking open the slot machines.
Members of the gang initially entered the establishments posing as regular customers. They fed large quantities of banknotes into selected slot machines and requested refund tickets, repeating the process several times. This manipulation forced cash to accumulate inside the internal deposit boxes of the machines.
Once the machines were filled with money, other masked members of the group entered the premises equipped with specialised tools. They forced the machines open and stole the cash boxes. During the raid in Callosa de Segura, the group made off with more than 23,000 euro.
The gang struck again in Rojales using the same tactic, but on this occasion the raid turned violent. The criminals sprayed pepper spray at the establishment manager before forcing open the machine and stealing more than 10,000 euro.
Following technical inspections and the analysis of security camera footage, officers identified the suspects. Four men and two women, aged between 20 and 28, were subsequently arrested in Almoradí and Murcia.
The detainees have been handed over to the courts in Torrevieja and Orihuela.
