A man has been arrested in Benidorm after allegedly stealing handbags, wallets, and mobile phones from hotel dining rooms while guests were getting breakfast. The 43-year-old suspect is believed to have targeted victims on up to fifteen occasions using a specific method to avoid detection.
Authorities launched an investigation following multiple complaints from victims who reported identical incidents. Guests stated they had left their bags hanging on the backs of chairs while visiting the breakfast buffet, only to find their belongings missing upon returning to their tables.
Police investigations revealed that the suspect would select his targets from outside the dining area before entering the establishment. Once an opportunity arose, he approached the table, positioned himself next to the chair, and used a garment to conceal his movements. He then stole the bags without raising suspicion and left the premises with the items hidden underneath the clothing.
Following investigative work, officers identified the suspect and set up an operation to locate and arrest him in connection with fifteen offences involving thefts by carelessness.
The detainee has been handed over to the duty investigating court in Benidorm following the completion of police procedures.
