A swift intervention by local police in Orihuela Costa prevented a workplace accident from escalating into a more critical situation. Officers were called to the scene after receiving reports that a worker had sustained a deep knife wound to his arm, near the wrist.
According to reports released by the police force on social media, the injury caused severe blood loss. The immediate actions taken by the officers were crucial in stabilising the individual until medical professionals arrived.
The Orihuela Local Police explained that the man had initially tried to make his way to a nearby health centre on his own. However, due to the severity of the injury and the resulting loss of blood, he began to feel unwell and was forced to seek assistance from passersby.
Upon receiving the call, a police patrol arrived at the scene and conducted an initial assessment. Recognising the urgency of the situation, the officers applied a tourniquet to the worker’s arm to stem the bleeding. Minutes later, a SAMU medical unit arrived, took charge of the patient, and transferred him to Torrevieja Hospital.
The Orihuela Local Police have emphasised the vital importance of ensuring that their patrols are fully prepared for emergency scenarios. In a statement, the force noted that training in tactical medicine and life support enables officers to provide essential care in critical situations while waiting for medical teams to reach the scene.
Reflecting on the successful intervention, the force stated, “Quick action and training that saves lives,” highlighting the responsiveness of the officers during an incident where every minute was crucial. The police force have wished the injured worker a speedy recovery and reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining high standards of emergency preparedness on public roads.
