Local Police officers in Elche have provisionally sealed more than 7,500 bottles of alcoholic beverages following an inspection campaign launched during the town’s patron saint festivities. The preventive operation, focused on child protection, was established specifically to prevent the sale and supply of alcohol to anyone under 18 years of age.
Just two days into the initiative, officers caught two commercial premises in Elche selling alcoholic drinks to underage customers. Public health regulations in the Valencian Community strictly prohibit such sales and mandate that retailers check a buyer’s age using official identification whenever any doubt exists.
In accordance with regional health legislation, police sealed over 7,500 bottles of various brands and strengths, whilst submitting official complaints to the governing sanctioning body. Local Police warned that selling or supplying alcoholic drinks to individuals under 18 constitutes a serious offence, carrying fines ranging from 15,000 to 60,000 euro depending on the circumstances.
