A patrol car from the Orihuela Local Police was involved in a serious accident this Sunday morning on the N-332, just before the Punta Prima roundabout. According to sources close to the operation, the patrol car signalled for a vehicle to stop, but the driver fled the scene. During the subsequent pursuit, the patrol car collided with a planter on the side of the road. Fortunately, there were no injuries reported.
The Guardia Civil Traffic Unit, which holds jurisdiction over the state-owned road, attended the scene to regulate traffic. This occurred on one of the busiest days of the year for local traffic density. The collision caused significant alarm among passersby in the area, which is lined with numerous hospitality establishments.
According to the same sources, the driver of the other car was located and towed shortly afterwards. On this occasion, the Orihuela Local Police, who are typically very active on social media—particularly regarding their presence on the coast—have decided not to release specific details regarding the accident following Sunday’s chase.
The police have reported several dramatic interventions recently. These include assisting a person suffering from a bleeding arm following a workplace accident, the arrest of a drunk driver who caused an accident involving a vehicle carrying a family—a case where officers used CCTV footage to illustrate an Instagram reel—and the closure of a section of the coastline. Notably, none of these incidents have been reported by the City Council through its official communication channels.
