When a car rental company recovered an unpaid vehicle in Murcia, staff discovered nearly one kilogram of cocaine hidden in the boot. Following the discovery, the Judicial Police of the National Police took over the investigation to locate the individual who had leased the vehicle.
The vehicle had been hired in July 2022. Due to repeated non-payment, the rental firm used a location system to trace and recover the car. When company employees brought the vehicle to their premises and inspected the boot, they found two black packages containing a white substance.
Officers from the National Police were called to the scene and conducted tests on the substance, confirming it was high-purity cocaine weighing a total of 976 grams. Forensic investigations, including fingerprint analysis on the packaging, linked the drugs to the man who had signed the rental contract.
The defendant was subsequently arrested and brought to trial. The Provincial Court of Murcia has now sentenced the man to three years and six months in prison and imposed a fine of 100,000 euro after finding him guilty of an offence against public health.
