A man has been arrested in Murcia by the National Police following the theft of a van from a business complex in Bigastro. The suspect faces accusations of theft, use of a motor vehicle, resistance, and disobedience after fleeing on foot when officers intercepted the vehicle.
The incident took place during a police checkpoint on the Plaza Isla Grosa road in Murcia. When officers signalled for a van carrying two men to stop, the occupants were unable to continue driving and abandoned the vehicle, fleeing on foot towards a nearby industrial park.
Officers pursued the suspects and successfully located one of them hiding in bushes next to a petrol station. According to the National Police, the individual put up strong resistance before officers subdued him and took him into custody.
Checks carried out after the arrest confirmed that the van had been stolen during the early hours of the previous morning at a business complex in Bigastro.
An investigation remains open to identify and locate the second occupant of the van and to establish their level of involvement in the incident. The detained individual has been placed at the disposal of the judicial authority as the alleged perpetrator of theft, use of a motor vehicle, resistance, and disobedience, while awaiting further precautionary measures.
