National Police and Guardia Civil officers have arrested two men responsible for a robbery at a petrol station in Isso, a hamlet in Hellin, which took place on 23rd April, thanks to cooperation with the Alicante Provincial Police Station.
The incident occurred during the early hours of 23rd April, when the occupants of a van made a hole in the wall of a petrol station in the town of Isso. After taking the cash register drawer, they fled towards Hellin, where they were located by patrols from the National Police local station and Local Police. A chase ensued through the town, extending onto the A-30 motorway and continuing along the CM-3262.
Throughout the pursuit, the occupants of the vehicle did not stop throwing stones and metal bars at the police vehicles, posing a clear risk to the officers as well as other road users, and even striking one of the police cars.
Following these events, an investigation was launched, which established that the vehicle used in the robbery had been stolen in the town of Guardamar Del Segura, in Alicante. The second and third rows of seats had been removed from the vehicle, likely with the intention of transporting a cigarette machine from the petrol station or for committing further burglaries.
When officers intercepted the vehicle, stones were found prepared on the floor of the front passenger area to throw at police vehicles, showing prior preparation by the perpetrators.
Investigators identified the suspects as two men and arrested them both. They face charges of burglary with force, theft of a vehicle for use, criminal damage, offences against road safety, and assaulting police officers.
