Torrevieja Town Hall, through the departments of Public Health and Social Welfare, is resuming its “Camina Torrevieja” initiative this September. The free programme is tailored for the municipality’s older residents, combining physical activity, emotional well-being, group interaction and social inclusion.
The healthy walks will begin tomorrow, Friday, 11th September, and will run through to December, featuring eight planned outings in total. Each walk will start at 8:45 am, with participants meeting outside the Social Welfare Department offices located at 39 Calle Torrevejenses Ausentes.
Participation is completely free of charge. The scheme aims to make regular physical activity a simple, accessible and enjoyable part of everyday life. To take part, residents simply need to turn up at the meeting point on the scheduled dates wearing suitable footwear and comfortable clothing, whilst bringing water and sun protection.
“Camina Torrevieja” gives older people the chance to stay active, explore local urban areas and share the experience with others. In doing so, it helps foster community ties and combats social isolation and unwanted loneliness.

The schedule of walks running through to December includes:
- 11 September at 8:45 am
- 23 September at 8:45 am
- 8 October at 8:45 am
- 21 October at 8:45 am
- 4 November at 8:45 am
- 17 November at 8:45 am
- 2 December at 8:45 am
- 18 December at 8:45 am
The organising departments are encouraging older adults across Torrevieja to integrate these walks into their routines and maintain regular participation over the coming months.
Beyond the physical health benefits, getting outdoors and walking in a group environment helps boost mood, ease stress and enhance general well-being. The walks provide a relaxed setting for conversation and for meeting new people, promoting community involvement.
The programme is delivered in collaboration with the Mental Health Care and Follow-up Service (SASEM), highlighting a holistic approach to health that encompasses physical, emotional and social care.
Participants are advised to eat a proper breakfast before attending, pace themselves according to their individual fitness levels, and consult medical professionals if they have any underlying health conditions or injuries.
