The National Police has arrested a 23-year-old man in Alicante for allegedly stealing two bank cards from an acquaintance while he was distracted and using them without authorisation, causing an economic loss of 4,500€. The individual is accused of a crime of fraud, as reported by the security force in a statement.
The investigation began following a complaint from an elderly citizen who alerted authorities to five cash withdrawals made using those cards. Officers verified that most of the charges had been carried out at cash machines of the same banking entity during nighttime hours.
As the victim stated that he had not provided his bank cards or authorised anyone to be able to utilise them, police officers directed their enquiries into discovering who made use of them.
As a result of the investigative procedures carried out, officers were able to identify the person who supposedly made the five reported charges. This was the 23-year-old man, an acquaintance of the victim, who, according to the National Police, stealthily took the bank cards to withdraw cash from the bank.
Subsequently, police officers located and arrested him, accusing him of a crime of fraud. Following the completion of police proceedings, the actions were placed at the disposal of the duty instruction courts of Alicante.
