National Police officers have arrested a 41-year-old man in the town of Benidorm, Alicante, who was the subject of a European Arrest Warrant issued by the authorities in Romania for offences against public order and security.
The arrest took place when a citizen security patrol identified the man in a public street, as reported by the headquarters in a statement. Upon noticing the police presence, the fugitive attempted to adopt an evasive manoeuvre to avoid the officers. After stopping him and running his details through the National Police databases, officers confirmed that an European Arrest Warrant had been issued against him by the Romanian authorities in July of this year for offences against public order and security.
The events that led to his arrest occurred in 2023 in Romania. While inside a casino, the fugitive began to hurl insults and threats at another man, maintaining a violent and agitated attitude that caused severe disturbances to public order within the establishment. For these actions, he faces a prison sentence of one year and five months.
Following the completion of police procedures, the detained man was brought before the Central Investigating Court of the National Court, which is the body responsible for carrying out the procedures for his subsequent extradition.
