The National Police are organising the fifth edition of their charity run and walk in Elche on Tuesday 8th December. The five-kilometre course, starting and finishing at Paseo de la Estación, is limited to 1,300 participants. Registration costs 12€, with all proceeds raised going to support two local charities, UAPO Elche and AEMEC.
There are races where the important thing is reaching the finish line, and others where the true objective goes far beyond the stopwatch. The Ruta 091 belongs to this second group, where each race bib represents a way to support people living with an illness and the organisations that work to support them.
Next Tuesday, 8 December, Elche will once again lace up its running shoes for the 5th Annual Ruta 091 Solidarity Run and Walk, organised by the Local Police Station. The event will start and finish at Paseo de la Estación and will allow participants to run or walk along a five-kilometre urban route.
The event has a very specific charitable component. This year, its support will go to two organisations in Elche: the Fundación Unidad de Apoyo al Paciente Oncológico (UAPO Elche) and the Asociación de Esclerosis Múltiple de Elche (AEMEC). These are the beneficiary organisations announced by the event itself, which once again combines sport and social commitment.
Five kilometres to participate at each person’s own pace
The event is open to people aged 14 and over, with parental or legal guardian authorisation where applicable. The organisers have set a limit of 1,300 participants, so those interested in taking part can check registration and available places on the official website.
The route will be five kilometres long, winding through the city streets, starting and finishing at Paseo de la Estación. The announced itinerary includes well-known landmarks such as Calle Corredora, Avenida Juan Carlos I, Avenida de Santa Pola, and Plaza de Baix, before returning to the finish area.
The race and the walk will share the same route, a format that ensures the event is not limited to those who train regularly or are looking to improve their times. The idea is that each participant can complete the distance at their own pace, within the conditions established by the organisers.
The start is scheduled for 10:00 am and the maximum time allowed to complete the course is 120 minutes, according to the detailed information of the event.

A number that can also become a help
Registration costs 12€. In addition, the organisers are offering a “Dorsal 0” option, a voluntary donation option where anyone can contribute any amount they wish, without needing to participate in the race.
This solidarity bib number does not entitle you to a t-shirt, as specified in the conditions published by the organisation.
For those who want to run, walk or collaborate, registration is done through the official Ruta 091 website: https://ruta091.es/carrera/carrera-solidaria-ruta-091-elche-2026
There you can consult the complete regulations and access the registration process.
8 December will also be an opportunity for families, friends, and groups of colleagues to share a sporting activity for a charitable cause. There is no need to commit to a specific time to participate in an initiative like this: all you need is the desire to take part and support the cause.
Sport as a meeting point with solidarity
Route 091 is once again part of Elche’s sports calendar with a proposal that unites the National Police, participants and beneficiary entities around a common goal.
For UAPO Elche and AEMEC, visibility and social support are crucial for raising public awareness of the realities faced by those they assist. The initiative focuses on two distinct areas: care for cancer patients and support for people with multiple sclerosis. It offers residents of Elche a direct way to join the cause.
On 8th December, each participant can choose how to tackle those five kilometres. Running, walking, or donating through the “Dorsal 0” initiative invites everyone to turn a morning of sport into an opportunity to support those in need.
The goal is not just to cross a finish line on Paseo de la Estación. It is also to demonstrate that when sport is used for a charitable cause, the whole city can find a reason to participate.
