Local police in Guardamar del Segura have arrested the suspected perpetrator of damage to at least 37 vehicles parked on various streets throughout the municipality during the early hours of the morning. He is a young man in his early twenties with a criminal record in the town for burglaries and other offences.
The events took place during the early hours of last Thursday, 15th October 2026, along a route of about two and a half kilometres between Calle Arenas, at the northern entrance of Guardamar, and Avenida Peru, in the southern part of the town centre.
Local police initially reported damage to 37 vehicles. Officers also recovered the tools used in the incident, which were handed over to the Guardia Civil for fingerprint analysis that could help identify the perpetrator.
Damages
The suspect allegedly broke into and damaged vehicles during his journey. According to information obtained, he was looking for items he could quickly sell for cash.
During the early hours of the morning, a joint operation was launched involving the local police and the Guardia Civil. One of the patrols managed to intercept the suspect, but he broke free and escaped on foot.
The man’s face was concealed with a balaclava and a cap, so officers were unable to identify him at the time. During his escape, he dropped a hammer, which was recovered and sent for fingerprint analysis.
The investigation progressed after the suspect, having broken into nearly 40 vehicles, attempted to rob a restaurant. The establishment’s security cameras captured an image of his face that allowed officers to identify him.
According to sources close to the arrest operation, the suspect is a young man from Guardamar, around 22 or 23 years old, known to the police and with a criminal record. The sources consulted confirm that he had previously served time in prison and has a history of drug addiction.
Local police located him that morning and arrested him. The arrest took place a few hours after the damage was caused, and the suspect was still wearing the same clothes he had been seen in earlier that morning.
Coincidence
The match between the clothing and the images obtained by the restaurant’s camera allowed it to be linked to the events under investigation.
After his arrest, the local police handed him over to the Guardia Civil, who took charge of the proceedings.
