Alicante Provincial Fire Consortium carried out 65 interventions during the night and early morning hours of Monday 19th October due to storm Adam, specifically between 20.15 and 07.43 hours. Among other tasks, personnel managed rescue operations for individuals stranded on the roofs of homes or trapped in their cars, whilst handling nearly 400 assistance calls during the early hours, according to a statement provided by the body’s spokesperson, Officer César Alcaraz.
The helicopter rescue group has been finishing operations that could not be completed overnight due to the impossibility of flying in the dark, with these efforts concentrated solely in the Marina Alta region. Authorities pointed out that these operations focused heavily on that area, specifically in municipalities such as Pego with 31 interventions and Javea with 25, which stand out with figures significantly higher than the rest. During that timeframe through the night and early hours, there were four interventions in Els Poblets, two in L’Atzúbia and Benimeli, and another in Dénia.
According to the Consortium, interventions were recorded continuously throughout the night, but with special intensity in Javea from 20.30 onwards until 01.00 hours, and from that hour until 04.00 hours in Pego. Operations were primarily due to water pumping in garages, basements, and homes, as well as water seepage, vehicles blocked by rain that could not continue their journey, and some river overflow incidents.
Two command posts have been set up and remain active, while provisions at the Dénia park were reinforced with units from the Benidorm, Cocentaina, and Crevillent parks. Four forest firefighter units with two vehicles were also activated, permanently monitoring riverbeds.
The number of interventions is approximate, and taking into account the total since 15.30 when the most intensive work began, the figure rises to 92, although it could be slightly higher. Regarding the evacuation of a campsite, where 64 people were moved around 00.24 hours to a multi-purpose room in Javea due to the effects of the storm, the Consortium confirmed it has no record of any injuries.
Alcaraz confirmed that the municipalities most affected by the storm are located in the Marina Alta region, especially the locality of Pego, which recorded the highest number of interventions. According to the Consortium spokesperson, operations mobilized more than 50 personnel during the early hours while attending nearly 400 assistance calls, prioritizing rescue actions above all else. Fundamentally, these involved rescuing people stranded on rooftops or inside vehicles. Once personnel accessed them, these situations were resolved, and a helicopter was mobilized at first light with the same mission.
